Cigar Box Guitar Amplifiers

DSC05537

Built a batch of Cigar Box Guitar Amplifiers, good sounds from a little box.  Works on a 9volt battery, 2.5 amp great to put on a desk or chair side table for those quick jamz between business meetings or a TV commercial.

Croaker Fest a big success for Homegrown Strings

DSCN1919

Homegrown Strings booth was well received at the 2013 Croaker Festival the weekend after the 4th of July. Lots of interest in roots music and the instruments, we had visitors from as far as France. Sales were much better than I had hoped and we made a lot of new friends. Check out some of the photos in the Croaker Festival album. If you want to be notified of our next event send a request through the contact page.

Hard at work…

DSC05548

Sorry I haven’t had much time for bloging, I’ve been busy working on a booth to take Homegrown Strings to festivals. I’m almost done and not a minute too soon, I’m scheduled to be at the Croaker Festival in Oriental NC on July 6th.  Here is a photo of the back panel of the booth and I will add more this week as time allows.

New Canjo Design

DSC05511 DSC05510 DSC05509

Tuned up the new Canjo this morning and I’m happy with the sound it produces both acoustically and plugged in. Unfretted and played with a slide it was designed to be built from things readily available. The spool tuner raises the pitch   as you roll it towards the headstock. I am going to put it to the test for a few days but I think it’s essentially done.

Booth Back Panel

Booth Back Panel

Still working on the website and learning with each keystroke. It seems to look more like what I want. Cleared out an area in my shop and worked on the display works for a festival booth this afternoon. I’m using material salvaged from EXXON – On The Run work I did years ago. I knew it would prove useful. It’s lightweight foam core and really strong.

Another day on the website

Well I spent another day working on the website, however I did manage to break away for about an hour to build a prototype” diddley bow canjo”  that I’m excited about. No mechanical tuning machines, really old school. it’s simple so I should have the design final in a day or so. I have to test drive it and make sure it can take the heat. anyway I’m on revision 47 with the webpage, that’s the way it is when you don’t know what you are doing. You try something and see if it works and then try something different. Yea, maybe a couple of months…..

Hello world!

Welcome To the build blog. Well the only thing I’m building today is this website and it’s obvious I know a lot more about wood and steel than html. Tried to find a pro to do it but not much cooperation. I decided to give it a try. It may take a while but bare with me and in a couple of months I may get it right.
